Hello :)

I have been busy this week trying out new candles. Not just using gorgeous vintage cups but also trying vintage planters and ceramic items too.

Tricia has also made some new teapot cosies. Kitty cat or Catmouse as we call them sometimes because they look like both animals :) Keep an eye out for one a little bit foxy too...

I finally have uploaded Fabric Rings - which haven't been online for a while. New bows, earrings, ceramic items and more. You can view all the new goodies here :)

The Package Project

I participated in Nadia's The Package Project at the end of last year and received my package this week all the way from South Africia! Nadia is the organiser who carefully reads everyone's blog so she can match you up with a partner suited to you :)

Nadia picked me! I felt honoured that the organiser wanted to receive a package from me and I would be sending a package to her! The pressure was on!

This is the lovely packages all wrapped up. I love the old book pages turned into an envelope :)

This is what was inside: a gorgeous bunny notebook, a beaded heart keyring, some precious glass heart buttons, a handmade mint & white brooch made by Nadia, a pretty hankie, lovely hair pins made by Nadia all presented on the cutest vintage playing cards.

Op shop finds

I thought I'd share with you all some of my op shop finds I found last week. I realise I often go op shopping but forget to share my finds with you all so I'm now going to try and make it a regular thing. Maybe not every week but every couple of weeks. Plus I really wanted to participate in Sophie's (Her Library Adventures) Flea Market finds :)

These are some lovely fabric and sheet finds.

This sheet is one of my favourites. I'm not sure what I will make with it but it won't remain a sheet since there is only one and it's a single bed sheet.

These are some of the vintage teacups I found. Most of them have been turned into teacup candles now and sent off to various stores

I neglected to remember it was Whiskers Lane's 2nd Birthday yesterday!

Gosh two years has flown by!

2011 was a big year for little Whiskers...

We gained 12 stockists! (thank you to all our lovely stockists)

We appeared in Bespoke Magazine issue #3

We appeared in Sweets Workshop Food Fight Zine #2

We appeared in the very first issue of Seam Magazine #1

We gained a new team member - Tricia (my mum) who makes the ceramics & teapot cosies

We had our first ever stall at Sydney Finders Keepers :) :)

2012 will bring many more exciting things for Whiskers Lane as I hope it does for you too!

Finders Keepers

I thought I would share with you all some photos from my stall at Finders Keepers in Sydney on the weekend. It was Whiskers Lane's first time having a stall at this amazing event and it did not disappoint! It was busy, exhausting but I was on a high the whole time. I met so many lovely customers and fellow stallholders that were just so friendly. There was several live bands, a bar, yummy food, a zine fair and over 80 stalls.

We got so many lovely comments on our stall. Thanks to all the sweet people we met ! :)

My lovely mother Tricia has always stood by me and supported Whiskers Lane for the last 2 years. She has always helped me in busy times, given me inspiration, spent the long market hours with me and basically taught me most of what I know today.

As Whiskers Lane continues to grown so do my designs. My mum has been crocheting and making ceramics for as long as I can remember (among many other crafty ventures) My first paid job was actually working in/at her ceramic studio/shop many years ago when I was 14. I remember pouring moulds, cleaning, sanding, glazing and of course the ever important sweeping!

She no longer has her studio but she has held on to some special moulds (from the 2000 moulds she once had) We have selected several cute ceramic pieces for the Whiskers Lane range and will introduce more in the new year.

When Tricia is not pouring, glazing and firing she is crocheting like a mad woman. I can crochet but not like her! Her hands are speedy :) We have designed a few tea cosies together and new designs will come next year also. She also crochets the lovely coconut ice brooches.

I would just like to say an official "Welcome to the Whiskers Lane team mum". I know there are many exciting things to come.

The Jack of Harts and Jude Cafe

The most adorable cafe I have had the pleasure of visiting is The Jack of Harts and Jude. Not only do they make delicious tea (complete with vintage teacups, teapots & tea cozies) top notch coffee, homemade baked goods and run by a lovely family but they also stock Whiskers Lane designs :)

My vintage teacup candles, fairybread brooches, freckle earrings, coconut ice brooches are all available in store. Their signature cake the "Passionfruit Sponge" was also turned into a brooch especially made for the cafe!

I do recommend taking a trip there!

My newest Brooch is a collaboration with my mum. Although I can crochet my mum is super speedy! I knew I wanted to make a coconut ice brooch and mum came up with the idea to crochet it so TA-DA here it is ! It's available online to purchase now too :)

Picnic Sewing Basket

I have always had this Sewing Basket for as long as I can remember. My mum gave it to me as a child and I would always keep treasured sewing tools inside. Written on the inside is my mother's maiden name and class (grade 6) making this basket over 55 years old and made in the late 1950's or 1960's.

Inside the basket I found some treasured items including the Bear and Puppy 'Learn to Sew' templates. I'm not sure where these animals came from but I do recall as a child weaving in and out of them using a plastic needle and wool.

The little glass elephant pin cushion was mothers too. He is so sweet.

I found a mini denim coin purse I had sewn as a child. It was one of my first projects. All sewn by hand with crookered pink stitching and velcro.

The packet of vintage needles I still use until this day. I love how the ladies look so happy in their sewing circle chatting away.

I'm not sure what is contained in the white rose paper package with the red bow. I've never opened it but I presume it's some kind of perfumed towlette (that has most likely dried out now).

I feel very lucky to have treasured items like these passed down to me and hopefully I can pass them down to my children one day too.

My 8 month old kitten decided that she would reach up and have a closer look at the pussy willow stems in my vase. I saw it happening and it was too late. It rolled, bounced and smashed! The only positive is I can make a mosaic :)

Vintage Teacup Candles

Here are two of my lovely vintage teacup candles I make. I usually make big batches for markets :) Some teacups are hard to part with - especially since I collect teacups! I use soy wax which is much better for the enviroment. Fragrances I have been using are Vanilla, Lemongrass and Vanilla Cheesecake (to die for!) There is so many new flavours I want to try!

After spending hours exploring her blog I finally came up with the most perfect design. I'm pretty confident she will fall in love with her (her being the brooch :)

Mum tells me this morning 'oh by the way I saw in the bottom of my drawer today that my drawer is lined with Bambi wrapping paper'. I made the cutest skirt today out of the most amazing vintage fabric I have ever seen. It must be more than 70 years old. My fabric is from my 99 year old Ma :) I must admit I was pretty scared to start sewing on it with the machine. It looks so delicate. It's hand embroidered little flowers...it's amazing!
